German as a Foreign Language

German as a Foreign Language (GFL) is a fully refereed academic journal which aims to promote research and teaching in the field of German Language. It will publish articles in English and German on all aspects of German language teaching and learning, including the intercultural aspects involved in this process and the specific perspectives on learning and teaching German outside the German-speaking countries.


The journal is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Goethe-Institut and is published three times a year – in April, September, and December. It is available free of charge on the internet. GFL does not charge article processing charges or submission charges.

GFL is an open-access journal, which allows readers to read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of its articles and allow readers to use them for any other lawful purpose. Reuse of material from GFL is permitted with attribution for non-commercial purposes.
